There is nothing more exhilarating than the rush of wind on the face while one is climbing up a steady incline on the outskirts of Kathmandu. The gears shift and the legs work overtime, the stomach clenches tight, and the cyclist now strategizes every breath to keep pushing the body and the machine up the ridge. It is arduous. However, when one reaches the top and is rewarded with a vista – a sweeping view of the valley below and on a clear day a view of the stunning mountain ranges – the effort makes absolute sense. Being on the saddle gives a sense of joy and freedom that few sports can bring. Cycling builds physical strength and stamina and also expands perspectives – if only one is open to the myriad experiences that surrounds the beautiful Kathmandu valley.
